Dopo i tanti ritardi di questo anno pandemico, sono finalmente ufficiali tutte le nomination agli Oscar 2021. In competizione per il miglior film ci sono The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Mank, Minari, Nomadland, Promising Young Woman, Sound of Metal e The Trial of the Chicago 7. Mank di Netflix ha ottenuto 10 nomination importanti, incluse le nomination per il miglior regista (David Fincher), il miglior attore (Gary Oldman) e la migliore attrice non protagonista (Amanda Seyfried), oltre al miglior film. Seguono con sei nomination a testa The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Minari, Nomadland, Sound of Metal e The Trial of the Chicago 7. Promising Young Woman di Emerald Fennell ha ricevuto cinque cenni.

Due donne nominate per la miglior regia 

Due donne sono state nominate per la migliore regia per la prima volta in assoluto con Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) ed Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman). Si sfideranno contro Thomas Vinterberg (Another Round), David Fincher (Mank) e Lee Isaac Chung (Minari). Priyanka Chopra Jonas e Nick Jonas hanno annunciato le nomination all'Oscar in una presentazione dal vivo in due parti lunedì tramite live streaming globale. La cerimonia si svolgerà di persona alla Union Station di Los Angeles e al Dolby Theatre il 25 aprile, dopo essere stata respinta dalla data originale del 28 febbraio.
